'Heat and Dust'

Here the sun is bright overhead,
and the skies are a pale shade of blue.
The ships lie still, tethered to the harbour walls,
waiting for the waves to wake them from their slumber.
The stone buildings glow in the heat and
the gulls circle the skies,
moving higher and higher with each each wing beat
calling out to their lost mates.

The cat sunbathes on the window-ledge
stretched out in all her feline glory -
Her fur is hot to the touch - The heat seeps into my veins
and drums up a secret longing for home...
The old city sweltering in the tropical sun,
Its inhabitants trapped in the dust bowl of heat and grime
waiting for the monsoon rain to quench their burning thirst.
