Of certain obsessions!

I never thought that I'd say this but I am slightly obsessed with the gym at the moment! I think it all started when Al gave me a gym bag for Christmas. Everyone burst into laughter knowing my aversion to exercise. I like sports and will gladly play Badminton, footie or any team sport but the idea of running on a treadmill was just not appealing to me. J has been trying for years but I never really felt comfortable inside a gym. I felt that it was for people who had unheathly body images or those who enjoyed pain or those who needed to lose weight! Also, gym fanatics can be so self-righteous! Moreover, I felt that there was too much pressure from the media to look a certain way and that the gym was built for those who liked rules and regimentation. Yes, I am generalising here but a combination of all of these factors made me shy away from the gym for I associated it either with meat heads or with super-motivated people who are in control of their lives...
I on the other hand am slightly lost in the best of situtations and am parked in front of the computer on most days and turn my nose up at the time wasted in the gym when I can be reading Borges!:)
Yet, this January I have been converted. Well, I used to go to pilates class before so I ended up going to aerobics one day and found myself dying while trying to keep up with the routine. I realised that I was terribly unfit and this made me re-consider my earlier position. Now I want nice abs and a heart that will not give up while trying to catch a bus...
Surprisingly for me now I regularly run on the treadmill and cycle and do other unexplicable things and it makes me feel better (its the release of those serotonins I am told) !! Yes, the pain was bad for the first few weeks but its getting better and I can see my stamina improve by leaps and bounds. Yay. Now I tell everyone that they should try it before they diss it - the trick is to find a routine that isn't too boring and to get some good tunes going on the ipod which helps to keep one interested. Though I wonder how long this discipline will last?
ps: The best thing by the way is coming home and soaking in a bath that is full of divine LUSH products ... By the way, did I tell you that Lush is another obsession and this one for a change does not hurt at all. :)

So this is where you are!
I was gymming for 5 months, before my marriage. And before that, I was a runner, running 4 kms almost every day. Now I do none of these. I am into pranayam and yoga asanas. Not everyday though.
You must must continue with the exercising bit. Its the way to happiness.
